Aircraft Mechanic School

An increasing demand for aircraft mechanics has been noted till the year 2016, indicating that this is a good time to enroll in an aircraft mechanic school. High-paying jobs await those who have satisfactorily completed courses in these schools. However, it is of paramount importance that the school one chooses is certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This FAA certification is necessary because of the high safety that is required in the tasks performed by aircraft technicians.
Persons who wish to pursue a career as aircraft mechanic should be ready to spend some time learning skills in FAA-certified schools. The students will need to finish either two- or four-year courses after which they can secure their own FAA certificate. It is difficult for other mechanics to advance into aircraft repair and maintenance as they can only work while supervised by an FAA-certified technician. Hence, it is better to first obtain school degrees specialized in aircraft technology such as aviation maintenance and avionics.
Students in aircraft mechanic school will need to attend a minimum of 1,900 class hours under FAA standards. Through these classroom sessions, the aircraft operation principles will be learned, knowledge of which will be the foundation for hands-on training later. This particular training phase is for courses of between 18 and 24 months wherein the students are trained to use the equipment and tools of aircraft mechanics.
Training in the US Armed Forces, particularly with its Air Force, is another way by which one may become an aircraft mechanic. However, while the aircraft maintenance training in the military may satisfy some FAA standards, further schooling will help in passing the certification test. In general, aircraft repair jobs in the US Armed Forces are too focused on military applications, and hence a broader training is still necessary for FAA certification.
Therefore, to be truly prepared to become an aircraft mechanic, a student has to be well-versed in Aviation Math and Science, Aircraft Materials and Processes, Aircraft Composite Structures, Aircraft Turbine Engines, among other subjects. Additionally, a student will need hands-on training on aircraft inspection, repair and maintenance for not just one type of aircraft but for various kinds of airplanes.
With the right training in an aircraft mechanic school, a student can then apply for an FAA certificate. Completion of this training, for instance, can substitute for the 18 months of work experience required for an FAA certificate for Airframe or Power Plant mechanic, and eventually launch an exciting career as an aircraft mechanic.
